Ashington draw Grimsby in FA Cup

JDG Media client Ashington AFC have landed a plumb draw in the FA Cup fourth qualifying round and will travel to former Football League side Grimsby Town. A 1-0 victory at home to Conference North side Guiseley at the weekend ensured a safe passage to this stage, and they are now only one win away from the first round proper. With the draw split into sections, there weren’t many bigger teams that the Colliers could have been pitted against and they will be dreaming of an FA Cup fairy-tale. The draw is ironic considering the unfortunate allegiance of JDG Media director Jonathan Bell, who is a life-long Mariners fan. Bell said: “It adds an extra bit of interest for the game. We have succumbed to lesser teams quite frequently in the last few years, a 2-1 defeat against Chasetown in last season’s FA Trophy springs to mind. “It’s a strange twist of fate but one that I’m sure the boys at Ashington will look forward to. Blundell Park can be a nice playing surface and many teams can relish that underdog tag.”
